Illegal immigration and farm workers

Had a friend ask me if new immigration laws would affect me. Apparently they assumed I was using cheap migrant workers on my farm. I had to make my self very patient and explain that I couldn't afford migrant workers or the inclement insurance issues that go with them. They seemed stunned that I was able to operate this entire business with just me and dad and the occasional assistance of a niece or other relative.

My first impulse when faced with a labor need isn't to go looking for some poor shmuck who can't find anything else to do. I automatically turn to further automation. Machines always work better than humans. And I think this is really the case for anyone seriously thinking of achieving a productive goal.

The reason I had to be patient while explaining this to my friend? My grandfather had to work hard for over ten years to become an American citizen. He and his entire family had to completely abandon their native language, Dutch (it was the law at the time) and my father and his siblings had to endure what can only be described as racism from English speaking whites as they entered the American mainstream. And yet we are all happy to be Americans, we pay our taxes and obey the laws of the land. I don't see any of this dedication on the part of those illegal aliens forcing their way into our country and our economy. Furthermore I and my cousins, third generation Americans, still face the after effects of the financial burden placed upon my grandfather's family when coming to this country. No one will ever pay reparations to us, entitle us or provide us with the additional services many illegals now enjoy for free. And why not? Because we are legal white citizens.

America is the greatest country on earth, a beacon of freedom and prosperity that everyone in every country yearns to emulate despite their despots' best efforts to suppress the truth. My people came here legally because of this and will continue to contribute to that greatness. We won't be swamped beneath a tide of cowardice and despair which has nothing but contempt for the people of this great country.

That is a great post that shows how things are 'supposed' to be, in a sense. Except for the discrimination that your family faced in the past.

the reality is that if there weren't any ilegal immigrants this country would fall apart.

these people are trying just to make a living. It's funny how I don't work, I only go to school from 9:00 to 12:00 and the rest of the day I just chill out spending all my money. I guess I was "lucky", whenever I see the immigrants working it depress me, I admire them so much, I've never seen any other people that works as hard as them.

If you said that your family worked so hard, you should understand them, they're also working to get a legal status. My mom is white, my dad from Brasil. And guess what I was born in Mexico because my dad was working as the Brasilian council in that country. However, I've never even been to Mexico, though I do speak Spanish, Portuguese and English. Since I was 2 months my parents moved to Spain and I lived there for 12 years.

Since then I've lived here in the U.S. And let me tell you something I'm probably the only Mexican who hasn't worked in a field or construction..:)

Hello Carlinhos,

Apparently you didn't even read what I posted. Please go back and actually read it instead of just having a knee jerk response to the words "illegal immigrant" and then trying to post your personal opinion over what I wrote. My family HAD legal status when they came here. They didn't just barge in and start depressing the wage rates. My grandfather taught both english and german and was a crop farmer in his spare time.

If you want to make your feelings about illegal immigrants known it only takes about 3 minutes to get your own blog and it's free. If you have a comment about my post that actually reflects on what I wrote that'd be super.

Best Wishes,
Guy

2 further points:
1) This country would be far better off without Illegal immigrants the social cost of their education, health care, road useage and the endemic crime that comes with them far outweighs their financial contribution to a few greedy capitalists who use them as virtual slaves.
2) I find it most revealing that you admire them so much but where is your regard for me and my social group? We work just as hard if not harder. You might not see us doing it but we're there every day making this country work. And we pay our taxes. All of my friends work in the fields or construction or some other vital industry (hospital, infrastructure etc.) and no one gives us the slightest regard that these illegals are demanding as their right.

Okay, I might have misunderstood your post... and I do have a blog, as a matter of fact I have 3.

1.Oscar Diary
2.Tu Cince Latino
3.The Film Experience

and about your 2 further points

1) This country woul NOT be better without illegal immigrants. Seriously, just think about it everything will fall. Can you imagine it? I have and it is a terrible thought, I don't want this country to fail, and without them, this nation would fall apart. They contribute so much to social security, and never get any benefits. It is all a myth that they come here to get welfare, first because in order to do so they have to be citizens. THEY PAY TAXES TOO so they are paying for the education of their children, they're health care, and road usage.

2) I don't doubt that you are a hardworking individual, I'm just saying that I really respect their people for trying to better their lives, for being brave enough to risk their lives just to have living. They do not come here to get our money, have you seen any illegal immigrant homeless? in the streets? asking for money? NO! they at least are outside HOME DEPOT waiting for someone to give them a job

oh and I found ofending the fact that you told me to get my own blog and wirte my own thoughts on it. Do you mind me visiting your blog? or commenting? I actually find it very interesting I even book marked it...

I feel like you didn't like the fact I have my own opinion, but that's one of the great things about blogs. For example, I'm a huge movie fan and I have my blog

oscardiary.blogspot.com

if you can visit you can see that there are many people posting their own opinions, many of them totally contradict mine, and I guess they really enjoy the fact I let them do that. Just go through my blog and you will find that most of my posts have an average of at least 50! comments

I don't mind you visiting, I don't mind you posting, When you are actually reading what I wrote and not just pushing your own agenda. It's super that you are free to express yourself and have your own opinion, just not at the expense of my opinion. On that point it is evident you still haven't grasped what I'm getting at: Why should these people be given what my family is still paying for?

If I didn't like your opinion here I would've simply deleted your comments so don't bust my chops about somehow "oppressing" you. You got offended? Big deal. I'm offended by the fact that 11 million people are living as slaves in my country but you didn't mind coming to my blog and defending them.

Back to my 2 points:
1) this country would be better off without illegal immigrants. It would be much better off with Legal immigrants. It's the coming here without permission that bugs me. We know that illegal immigrants do not contribute to social security or pay income taxes because then their employers would have to report their earnings and we know for a fact that in the vast majority of cases this is not happening. A bunch of people got arrested over this just last week.

2) You don't doubt how hard I work but your respect for these illegal workers is still greater than your respect for me and my kind. Freedom is not free, I have to fight for it every day just as hard as anyone else has to, don't I deserve some respect too? Don't I deserve all the great things that America promises these people who are from my point of view, invaders?

Oh, and Charlie Brown? I don't know if that is your real name but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. But you'd get a lot better response from me and other people if you'd trust us with a real picture of your face. You can see me every time you come to my blog, I've got nothing to hide.

Thanks for the lively discussion and keep on thinking.

One last thing. You made some sweeping generalizations in your second argument. How do you know none of the illegals are homeless? How do you know that none of them are begging? Have you checked with all of them?

Let me make some specifications that aren't general: hundreds of illegal immigrants from mexico are arrested in my county and the adjacent counties every year while transporting cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijauna here from mexico.

Furthermore those who come here to work may not come here to take your money, but they are definitely here to take mine. If you had read any of the rest of my blog you would've realized that as a small direct-to-market farmer I personally physically have to compete with their labor resources. I can compete with any two or three migrant workers but the thousands who drive down the price of produce directly reduce my income while driving up the income of industrial farmers and corporate middlemen. I can say all of this with certainty because it is the reality I deal with every day. You on the other hand are just guessing.

Best wishes.

I am not just guessing, I'm a pro immigration advocate. And no my name is NOT Charlie Brown. My actual name IS Carlinhos Brown. Carlinhos is a very popular Brazilian name, I was actually named after my grand father. And Brown well, it is actually my ture last name as well. And the picture it is me, but I'm the one behind the "V For Vendetta" mask really... watch the movie and you will know what I'm talking about.

Guy said...

Well Charlie, another thing I do know from all your comments is that you're full of crap. You vacilate through a half dozen different stories, themes and messages. Constantly pinging back on a single point "hoorah for the illegal immigrants!" without ever once reflecting on my thoughts. It is apparent that you are only coming here to prosyletize and spread propaganda. You don't give a damn about me or the plight of anyone else, just the interest of those for whom you are pimping.

Guy said...

Hmmm...
Looks like Cornholio still isn't brave enough to take off that mask. Here's another FACT he couldn't argue with:

The net cost to the federal government in 2002 for public services provided to illegal aliens was $10.4 billion or $2,736 per household according to a report by the Center for Immigration Studies. Estimates for 2005 put the amount at $11.7 billion or $3,080 per household.

600,000 people dead in Darfur and You can't shed a tear; your face is a mask.

Don't try to make me think that people breaking the law deserve my pity. People who are dying already have it all.

Keep your propaganda on your own page Cornholio.

To my loyal and civil readership. I'm sorry for locking out this subject for comment but CB just kept making me delete his propaganda postings (thus the scattered nature of my last 4 commments) Please feel free to peruse my other postings and forgive me for my iconoclastic bastionism. A fella can only take so much BullC&^P.
